NEW YORK

Good People - Good Water - Good Fish

A weird name for a trout stream, "The Branch," but that is what Google and Apple Maps call this creek.  The trout water was not a planned place to catch my New York Trout; it just showed up on a hiking day.

After fishing on the more famous branches of the Ausable with no luck, even after some of the most beautiful hatches you could ever see, I needed to find a small creek.  Small creeks carry native Brooke Trout, which are hard to catch, but I have lots of experience.

This first crack was before a hiking day, but after 20 minutes, Lauren and I decided to hit the trail.  On a random day of shopping and eating, we happen to pass the little "The Branch" and I convinced Lauren this was the best place to catch my New York fish as I was running out of time.  On my fifth cast, I hooked a Brookie in front of a large boulder just before a bridge. Thank God I was lucky! We spent another 40 minutes trying to catch another one, but Lauren and I had no luck.
