Good People - Good Water - Good Fish

I'd been fishing in the West on vacations and learning how to fly fish.  Tying my own flies and dreaming of fly fishing started in high school, but I only fished in ponds.  Even then, I never caught anything.  My first catch was on a fiberglass rod.  It was a turtle in Florida.

My hockey buddies fish for trout in Wisconsin several times a year.  In 2006 they asked me, or I invited myself.  We drove in the morning and decided to fish before the sunset at Reads Creek, just off Hwy 14.  On this trip, I had my two Labrador Retrievers with me, Maggie and Baguette.  I let the guys have the Reads Creek falls while I fished the canyon.  My two dogs had never angled before, and it showed.  I think I yelled at them the whole time in the canyon, echoing my calls.

I made one excellent cast only, luckily, there was a brook trout there, and I landed my first Wisconsin Trout.
